Spring/Summer 2013
Character design for a scout mecha pilot. Her powered exoframe allows for fast movement on desert, canyon and mountainous terrain over long distances.
The suit has a large generator on the back with a power core at the center of the chest for the pilots life support system and one in the left exo-arm for its weapon that convert and store energy. The left battle arm is an independent robotic limb with a beam cannon for repeated mid distance firing while the right exo-arm carries a powerful ranged rifle for sniping with armor piercing projectiles, and has small shoulder battery of anti-air defense rockets.
I named the suit Desert Rose, based on what the background environment became while painting and after finding this description of the metaphysical properties of the mineral that fit what I had in mind for the character's role and traits.
"It is an angelic stone of the mind...is said to bring mental ability and clarity, as well as perception of all kinds, including intuitive perception. Desert rose is used in crystal healing to quiet worries and still the mind from distractions and disruptions. Metaphysically, desert rose is used to dissolve "programs" we have put upon our selves that are outdated or over-used. It is helpful for strength in meditation and affirmation. It is said to be helpful for the spine and the skeleton in general, and for aligning the spine properly."
